Academic Excellence and Results

St Joseph's Preparatory School achieves excellent academic standards across the curriculum and this is reflected in the results achieved in internal examinations, externally marked assessments and national PIPS tests co-ordinated by Durham University, preparing our pupils thoroughly for entrance to secondary education.

Year 6 Attainment 2017-2018

We have chosen to withdraw from state SATs examinations which allows us to focus and improve the performance of the large number of pupils who take entrance tests during Prep 6. In recent years, former pupils have achieved excellent results and progressed to a number of secondary schools nearby including St. Joseph's College. A number of children have received academic and sporting scholarships for Denstone College, Newcastle-under-Lyme School and St Dominic's. Others have moved further afield, for example, to Christ's Hospital and Stonyhurst.

Independent Schools Inspectorate

The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is the body approved by the Government for the purpose of inspecting schools belonging to the Independent Schools Council (ISC) Associations and reporting on compliance with the Education (Independent School Standards) (England) Regulations 2010*.

During Inspection in November 2010, St Joseph's Preparatory School received the following comments from the ISI:

"The pupils’ personal development is excellent; pupils demonstrate qualities of exceptionally good manners, courtesy, tolerance and respect in all their relationships, contributing very well to the school community and so fulfilling the school’s aims. They reflect carefully on faith issues and have strong moral values, collaborating extremely effectively in lessons. Their cultural awareness is also outstandingly developed."

“The personal development of the pupils is excellent and a strength of the school....”

“Parents are overwhelmingly positive about all areas of school life....”

“The pupils’ successful achievement is supported by their strong attitudes to learning, their exemplary behaviour and the extremely good relationships they enjoy between themselves and with staff....”

“The pastoral care shown to pupils is outstanding......”
